Understanding pipe, tubing & octg

Compare the functions and applications in this category, then use the catalogue filters to narrow your requirement. Each topic includes detailed selection information and an enquiry form.

Line pipe

Line pipe carries fluids through gathering and transmission systems. It is specified by outside diameter, wall thickness, material grade and manufacturing route, with additional requirements for the particular product and environment.

Oil, gas and water pipelines use line pipe selected against mechanical, corrosion and construction requirements. Coating and end preparation depend on the installation method.

Process and stainless pipe

Process pipe connects equipment and transports fluids within industrial facilities. Carbon steel, alloy steel and stainless steel selections address different combinations of temperature, corrosion exposure and mechanical requirements.

Refineries, chemical plants and utility networks use piping materials defined by a project piping class. Stainless pipe is selected for specified corrosion or cleanliness needs.

Casing and production tubing

Casing supports and isolates sections of a wellbore, while production tubing provides a flow path within the completed well. Both belong to oil country tubular goods, commonly abbreviated OCTG.

Well construction, production and injection use different tubular strings. Well loads, fluids and temperature affect the material and connection requirements.

Instrument and heat-exchanger tubing

Instrument tubing connects measurement and control devices, while heat-exchanger tubes separate fluids and provide heat-transfer surface. These products may share material families but have different dimensional, cleanliness and inspection requirements.

Small-bore instrument installations and shell-and-tube exchangers use tubing selected for pressure, temperature and fluid compatibility. Replacement tubes must match the existing assembly.

GRE, GRP and thermoplastic piping

GRE and GRP pipes are reinforced composite piping products, while thermoplastic pipes use materials such as HDPE. Their joint systems, mechanical behavior and service limits differ from metallic piping.

Compatible water, utility and selected process services use non-metallic piping. Chemical exposure, temperature and installation loads are central to assessing suitability.
